What is the Paleo diet?

The Paleo diet is based on real food and is about finding what food is optimal for your body .

{It’s as simple as that.}

And for most people, modern and processed "food-like substances" and low-fat diets are not the answer.

Humans did most of their evolution during the Paleolithic period, while they were hunter-gatherers. Many scientists such as Dr Loren Cordain, Arthur De Vany, PhD and biochemist Robb Wolf studied evolutionary biology and believe that most of our genes are set to work beter with the kind of foods we ate during that time:

Avoiding modern food that most people may not be adapted to is also an important part of eating real food. The Paleo diet eliminates "edible substances" that are nutrient-poor and contain antinutrients, irritate your gut, contribute to inflammation and autoimmune reactions and disrupts your blood sugars and hormones, such as:

    ★ grains, especially gluten-containing gains, both whole and refined;

Giving up your bread, pasta, cookies, soft drinks and beer?
It may appear daunting at first, but it is definitely not impossible with the help of a dietitan. Give it a try, at least for 28 days! After a few weeks of avoiding these Neolithic foods and eating real foods, you will never want to go back to your previous way of eating. These processed “foods” will simply lose their appeal as you start feeling better and healthier by nourishing your body with real food.

More doctors and health professionals, including MDs, endocrinologists, RDs (registered dietitians) and even psychiatrists, are starting to understand the importance of eating real food for optimal health. Whether you call it the Paleo diet, the Ancestral diet, the Primal diet, the Original diet, the Evolution diet or the Caveman diet, you can nourish your body, prevent diseases and improve your health by eating real food, the kind of food that was available to our ancestors for thousands of years. This approach is not about reenacting the lives of hunter-gatherers, but it a very good framework, template and starting point to determine what food is optimal for your body.

It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but it is the best place to start learning about how what you eat makes you feel.
